I wanted to let you all know that I've decided what game I want to make and have begun work on a My Little Pony themed 2D platformer.
Over the last two weeks I've been working on a prototype of the game, and while there isn't a whole lot for me to show off right now, one of the big features I have fully integrated into the game is the ability for people to import their characters from generalzoi
's Pony Creator
I've already gotten permission from her, and have spent the majority of my time programming an interface to get the character into the game and functional.
So why am I telling you guys about this? Well, two reasons.
First and simplest: I wanted to let people know that this is happening
. I'm working on a game. It is a MLP game. And I'm making my own game engine for it. This means it can and will have anything in it we want!
I'm going to be doing my updates on the game's progress here on my Deviant Art journal. So if you want to follow the game, and its updates, this is the place to go.
Secondly: there's something I wanted to rant about. I don't expect anyone to read this next paragraph, and in fact I recommend that you don't. Just something I have to get out of my system.
I just spent the majority of the last 4 days (between classes and assignments) working on solving a problem with Pony Creator. I doubt anybody has ever noticed, but if you change the pose in Pony Creator frequently the body parts will start to fly around a bit and it stops working properly. Want to see what I mean? Jump into Pony Creator and click on the preset poses a lot. After about 40 clicks you'll start to see it. To solve this problem I had to create my own bone system, and bypass Pony Creator's system entirely. After many hours of work I now finally have something. The hard part of it all was working out which elements of the character are attached to which bone. However, this may not be an entirely bad thing: using a custom system does have its benefits. It means that I now have more control over how its animated, and in addition I can now animate the wings and tail to a degree. Though it did mean a lot of frustrating work. But I'm glad that I've done it now.
So in conclusion: I'm making a MLP 2D platformer. You can import your Pony Creator character. I'm updating here on dA.
